- Description: John Foster Fraser was a British journalist and writer best known for completing one of the earliest bicycle journeys around the world. In July 1896, he set off from London with two friends, Edward Lunn and F.H. Lowe, aiming to circumnavigate the globe on high-wheel bicycles made by Rudge-Whitworth. In just over two years, they covered 17'000 miles (about 27'000 km), passing through France, Germany, Russia, India, Japan, the United States, and many other countries. The journey was documented in his book Round the World on a Wheel, which was widely acclaimed and translated into several languages
